I implemented this LIFE-CHANGING HACK 10 years ago! It was monumental in my transformation to going from a very anxious mom to a calm and more present mom.

I was super anxious when my kids were babies/toddlers. I had such a hard time falling asleep and then actually staying asleep.

I would have nightmares multiple times a week about bad things happening to my husband and kids. My mornings started with such doom and gloom which set the tone for my day. š¢

I would let my mind stew over the nightmares and then go down a rabbit hole of "what ifs."

Something needed to change because I was in an anxious and overwhelmed state all of the time. š«
Ā
I began to reflect on the factors that were fueling my anxiety. š¤
Ā
Gradually, I came to recognize that a considerable portion of my anxiety stemmed from the news stories I was consuming, the horrible things my friends were telling me about what they heard, my mom callingĀ to tell me that someone was kidnapped or killed, etc. šŗ

The lens š through which the media portrays the world is fractured and cloudy. Instead of focusing on the goodness in our communities, they focus on the negative.
Ā
The world š then appears like it is turned upside down and you can't help but think you and your family are a ticking time bomb for tragedy.Ā
Ā
Next, the cortisol levels in your body spike ā¬ļø and you get stuck in a fight or flight mode which is the perfect breeding ground for ANXIETY.
Ā
At this point you may be thinking that I am crazy and wondering how in the world you would ever be able to keep up with politics, what is going on, etc.Ā
Ā
The answer is simple....you don't need to.

If your mental health is impacted by the news, zoom out for a second and ask yourself......Ā
Ā
What is more important for you and your children's overall well-being?
Health OR Propaganda?
Ā
The news is designed to feed you a certain agenda. That agenda is FEAR.
Ā
When you soak in the fear based stories, your subconscious mind can't help but store those thoughts and then be ready at all times to sabotage you.
Ā
When we are in FEAR mode, we FREEZE and become ANXIOUS. When that happens, we become more impressionable and easily manipulated.
Ā
We then start to experience physical pain along with more emotional distress. It snowballs and leaves us feeling overwhelmed, fatigued, powerless and scared.

Not sure how to go about making the shift to NO NEWS?

Tell a loved one that you have made a conscious decision to prioritize your well-being and that means putting yourself first. As part of this process, you have decided to turn off the news. Relay how important this is and that it will create a more positive and peaceful environment for yourself. Thank them for their understanding & support. š

Ask them to let you know if there is any dire emergency that comes up that you need to be aware of. I did this and my husband has come to me a handful of times with news updates in the past 10 years :) See how much I didn't miss? š

You may need to start with baby steps. If watching the news is part of your daily routine, try limiting the amount of time you spend watching it. For example, only 10 minutes per day. Then gradually watch it only every other day and so on until you eliminate it completely. š

I know you can do this and I am 100% positive it will change your life dramatically. Change can be scary but absolutely necessary. Remember you have the POWER!Ā
