In our fast-paced modern world, it can be so easy to disconnect from Mother Nature. When we are indoors and constantly glued to technology, we often forget the deep natural connection we share with the Earth.
Life gets chaotic. In those times we need a simple practice that quickly brings us back to our roots: grounding ourselves with the Earth.
Grounding, also known as Earthing, is the practice of connecting directly with the Earth's energy.
We absorb its electrons when we walk, sit or lie down outside. The electrons have antioxidant effects, which neutralize harmful free radicals that contribute to chronic inflammation and disease. It also improves your blood flow and immune system!
But grounding isn't just about physical health—it also has significant effects on our mental and emotional well-being. I personally feel calmer, more centered and less stressed after spending time in the Earth's energy.
Our bodies are designed with the same energetic rhythm as Mother Nature. The same thing we came from is where Mother Nature came from!
Stop and really think about that. Can you see how profound this is? It is absolutely amazing! We have peace and harmony we can sync up with right outside our front door!
When we walk barefoot on the Earth or hug a tree, we can't help but feel a deep sense of unity with all living things. This sense of connection reminds us that we are ONE...not separate from Mother Nature.
How do we know if we are ungrounded?
How can we incorporate grounding into our daily lives?
If you don’t have a chance to get outdoors, you can practice this VISUALIZATION technique:
Stand, sit or lie down for a couple minutes. Close your eyes. Imagine many roots extending from your body and going deep into the Earth, anchoring you to its energy. Feel the slight tug and the connectedness.
There's no one-size-fits-all approach to grounding. The key is to find what works for you and incorporate it into your daily routine.
My favorite is going for a walk in the forest and hugging trees. I know it sounds weird but try it. You will be quite surprised by the experience. If you go into it with an open mind and get really still, you can actually feel the energy.
In a world where anxiety and overwhelm are all too common, I have found grounding to be such a simple yet powerful healing medicine.
So the next time you feel like you are on autopilot and irritable, take a moment to step outdoors, kick off your shoes and feel the Earth beneath your feet—energy, balance and serenity eagerly awaits you.
