The energy of our belongings and living environment significantly impacts our mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
Your home should be a sanctuary where you can unwind, relax, and recharge. It’s a space that offers refuge from the hustle and bustle of daily life, allowing you to disconnect from external stresses and reconnect with yourself.🌿
I thought it would be fun to share 8 methods I use to bring calm into my home, which I believe could be highly beneficial for you as well.
Why it matters: Clutter causes stress and anxiety. A tidy space gives you a sense of order and tranquility.
How to do it:
Start Small: Begin with one room or even a single corner. Gradually expand your efforts over time. Don’t think you have to do it all at once..this will create more stress & anxiety.
Sort and Simplify: Keep only what you need and love. Donate or dispose of items that you haven’t used in the past 6 months.
One in, Two Out Rule: For every new item that comes into your life, you need to remove two. That means gifts, clothes, shoes, books, magazines... anything.
Why it matters: Colors have a huge impact on our mood. Soft, neutral tones create a serene atmosphere.
How to do it:
Paint Walls: Opt for calming colors like soft blues, greens, or grays.
Decor Accents: Incorporate these colors through throw pillows, rugs and artwork.
Why it matters: Nature has a calming effect on the mind. Bringing elements of the outdoors inside enhances your sense of peace.
How to do it:
Houseplants: Add greenery with low-maintenance plants like succulents, ferns, or peace lilies. If you have trouble keeping plants alive, I have a game changing tip for you. This past November I discovered EasyPlant.com (I am not affiliated with them) but recommend them only because they have changed the way I have real plants in our house. I have a very hard time keeping plants alive in general so I decided to buy 2 plants from them. They are self watering plants that I only have to water every 30 days or so. I am happy to report I have had them for 7 months and they are still alive & healthy! I will definitely be getting some more from them.
Natural Materials: Use wood, stone and bamboo in your furniture and decor.
Why it matters: Having a designated space for relaxation can help you unwind and de-stress.
How to do it:
Reading Nook: Set up a comfortable chair with good lighting and a small table for books and tea.
Meditation Space: Designate a quiet corner with a cushion, soft lighting and a small altar with meaningful items. I like to put crystals, sage and a candle on my altar.
Why it matters: Lighting influences your mood and energy levels. Soft, warm lighting creates a calming environment.
How to do it:
Natural Light: Maximize natural light during the day by opening curtains and blinds.
Ambient Lighting: Use lamps with warm bulbs instead of harsh overhead lights.
Candles: Incorporate candles for a soft, flickering glow. Scented candles also add a soothing aroma. Make sure you buy clean candles made with bees, coconut or soy wax. Stay away from paraffin wax. Ensure the candle oils are natural & phthalate-free.
Why it matters: Certain scents promote relaxation and reduce stress.
How to do it:
Why it matters: Sound is energy & greatly affects our state of mind. Gentle, calming sounds help create a peaceful atmosphere.
